Summary of the 14th State Address by the president.

President Akufo-Addo on Sunday, July 26 addressed the nation on measures taken against the spread of coronavirus in the country.

This was the first national address from the President who resumed work on Monday after self-isolating for two weeks over a Covid-19 scare.

Below is the summary of the content:

📍I was in quarantine for 2 weeks and I’m back to work. 

📍We have come to understand that COVID-19 is not a problem which will come on its own. We hope and pray that a treatment will happen tomorrow but we don’t know if will happen in a month or in a few years

📍It’s not normal that we have to wear masks but now we have to. Until a treatment is found, COVID-19 remains a part of our lives 

📍The most significant of our measures has been the gradual reopening of schools. Since I last addressed the nation, we have seen students return to school to prepare for their final exams 

📍Final year students who have tested positive are being managed 

📍Government is extending the free supply of electricity to lifeline users to the end of the year. 

📍The safety and good health of student and staff have been the paramount consideration in the opening of schools.

📍The Finance Minister has painted a credible hope for the future despite the effects of COVID 

📍Government was able to feed over 1,000 people during the lockdown 

📍GH$600 million being disbursed to businesses 

📍Our recovery rate has increased from 75% a month ago to 89%. Our hospitalization rate has been very low

📍We are steadily on the path to limiting spread of the virus

📍From 1 August the duration of church services will be extended from 1 hour to 2 hours

📍Ghana’s death rate has consistently been very low

📍The number to look out for is the number of active cases 

📍Until treatment is found covid will remain with us.

📍I’m announcing the reopening of our tourist sites. Beaches, pubs, cinemas and nightclubs remain closed 

📍Open-air drinking bars can now function 

📍Government has lifted restrictions on the transport sector, buses and air planes can take full capacity.

📍Borders remain closed 

📍We must reject those who seek to spread falsehood 

📍There will always be those peddling untruth through social media, as we work towards defeating this virus we should work to stop those people 

📍Black Maidens and Black Princesses can go camping and start preparations ahead of their respective qualifiers but will follow the protocols accordingly.

📍We should teach ourselves how to live responsibly with the virus
