The SIM card registration exercise which started in October, last year, was set to end on 31st March, 2022 of this year. But the date has been changed due to a huge number of people not embarking on this registration exercise.

In a press release signed by the sector Minister, Ursula Owusu on Tuesday, the Ministry expounded on the reason why the extension is necessary which is, the unending characterized process associated to this exercise since its inception in October last year.

As of 17th March, 14,091,542 Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) Card users have been linked to the Ghana Card, 10,348,532 Bio-Captures conducted and 99,445 New SIMS registered. Due to this, the number of factors including the fact that over 7.5 million citizens and residents are yet to obtain Ghana Cards to enable them register their SIM cards, it is then crystal clear that, the substantive extension of the deadline for the completion of the registration is very necessary.”

Less than 7 million people have registered so for, and more than 40 million users are yet to be registered across the country.
