Accra Based football club Hearts of Oak coached by Samuel Boadu beat Bechem United in Baba Yara, Kumasi to clinch this year’s MTN FA cup as they played in the finals yesterday, June 26, 2022. Hearts of Oak have not replicated a fine form as they did in the 2021 Ghana Premier League season though they signed a number of good and experienced players like Suley Muntari and Samuel Inkoom ( former Black stars players).
Hearts of Oak started the 2022 GPL season on a bad note drawing and loosing games which they were supposed to win despite the quality players present in the team. They had the lives of Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Kofi Kordzi, Gladson Awako, and other veterans yet things did not go well for them as they placed 6th on the league table amassing 48 points which is a very flawed result looking at how Hearts of Oak is regarded and eulogized as one of the best teams in the Ghanaian football scene.
However, Hearts of Oak did well by progressing into the finals of the MTN FA CUP even though they had a shaky spell of performance in most of the matches they played. Going into the match, football fans were of the view that Hearts of Oak will be beaten by Bechem United taking into consideration the form guide of both teams.
Hearts of Oak surprisingly beat Bechem United by 2-1 though the Bono situated team scored the first goal. Avornyo scored for Bechem United while Caleb Amankwah and the skipper Daniel Afriyie Barnieh equalized to help Hearts of Oak win the cup in a consecutive tenure.
